(This is a new page on my website at www.elissaheyman.com in response to frequently asked questions.)
The way I experience mediumship is often during the process of getting ready for a client. By inviting in anything that’s relevant, the spirit of someone who has passed can make their presence known. It’s always for a reason that they’re there… they are relevant to ongoing circumstances, or there’s something that can be healed; guilt can be relieved, misunderstandings cleared up, etc.
An interesting phenomenon with mediumship is that when contact is made with somebody’s loved one, sometimes it comes with a more intense wave of love than my system can handle, and I have to recover a little. I guess we learn to be more loving in the spirit world!
Sometimes clients ask for a message from a loved one (human or animal), and this also works as a way to connect with the spiritual world. .
There is also mediumship when a full trance medium “becomes” another entity – the medium goes into a trance and for instance, allows a consciousness with knowledge and healing to speak through them. I was taught for decades by such a spiritual medium, whose psychic development classes began with a fascinating sceance featuring his spirit guides. We were given exercises to connect with our senses and the spiritual world, and taught metaphysical principles and the building blocks of divination systems.
Channeling is the same process that’s part of mediumship, where the normal ego-identity of the medium is surrendered to receive from other consciousnesses. Channelers are receiving messages from a broader range of realms. One can be a channel for the sea or the winds; or the elements of fire, water, air, and earth, a particular year – the possibilities are endless. Some modern classic metaphysical books of knowledge like the Course in Miracles and Ralph Blum’s Book of Runes, are examples of channeled material.
The kind of messages received in channeling are determined by the intention set by the channel… they might have a shorthand prayer to raise their consciousness and vibration first, for instance asking for wisdom and truth and whatever is helpful to know.
Are messages from animals mediumship or channeling? I don’t know, but I was amused by the first dog that ever gave a message through me, The owner expected to hear something loving from him , but instead, in spirit he jumped at the opportunity to point out she hadn’t walked him enough when he was alive, and that there was still a dog at home who needed more time outside, and she should walk the dog that’s left a lot more often than she had been.
A Channeling Example: It’s the Winter Solstice, December 21st 2022, and this channeled message is about the year ahead.
New Year’s Day Wish 2023: “We are here”(the dispossessed),”…. beholden to all of you, those who have little and much and those in between… and all of us being full of grace on this day of change, proclaim Money is Love. Sometimes we’re asked to give more and more freely than other times.”
Translation into plain English: People who are put out of familiar and stable surroundings due to 2023 events, require more help than usual from the people in more stable circumstances. Those in relative comfort are asked to be an agent of grace in 2023, and give more generously this year.
I love the way William Shatner narrataes strange tales on tv show, ” The Unexplained”…puts me back to being ten years old at summer camp, listening to scary stories around a fire.
The latest one featured The Weird Wild West, and two of the stories were about places and events I know something about.
One of the stories was about the Superstition Mountains in California. Supposedly there’s a huge gold treasure buried there, and hundreds of people have died looking for it, and the local Natives have put a curse on the land to discourage treasure hunters wrecking the environment in that area.
I’d never heard of these mountains when I moved from California to New Mexico in the late ‘80’s, but driving through the Arizona desert on my way to Santa Fe, they caught my eye, and I took a detour to get closer.
Soon after a sign came up announcing the “Superstition Mountains” on that deserted road, something strange happened: I became aware of a force field, something that made me open the windows and feel what was so intense and present in that place, and suddenly, my car died all by itself. It had gas, my foot was on the pedal, and it just stopped.
Nobody was around so I could leave it there, and I walked the short way up to the mountains in front of me.
Up close there was some signage about rattlesnakes, and that they had green skin! I didn’t see any but I did see my first iguana in the U.S. in those mountains; he was also a very vivid green. I did not experience anything that felt malevolent, just supernaturally powerful, the kind of spot Carlos Castenada of the don Juan books referred to as a power spot. My consciousness expanded up there and my connection to spiritual guidance was definitely boosted – I got a lot of deep insights about myself and my future in New Mexico.
I walked back out with great trepidation toward my dead car, but it started right up, I was done there.
Another story on the Weird Wild West episode on The Unexplained is about giant birds like pterodactyls that roamed the Southwest at the turn of the century. And maybe still! There are photos from decades ago of one killed in Tombstone, Arizona, and even a video of one flying in Idaho in 2018. (In the comments, more than one person at the same time reports seeing them in far-flung places like a miliary base in Cuba.)
I heard two different stories from people I know in Santa Fe. One was about a teenager hopefully about to have sex one full moon night. He and his girlfriend were driving down a dirt road west of town, looking for a place to park, when a tremendous force of wind that sounded like a small airplane blew dirt and dust all over his truck. He could feel the force of the wind driving into it.
Up ahead they could make out a giant bird trying to take off, flapping its wings which spanned the road and more, with a triangular long head.
Definitely blew that date, she couldn’t wait to get out of there!
The other flying-dinosaur story I heard was from someone I know who was driving from Santa Fe to Albuquerque down La Bajada Hill, and looking west, both she and her daughter saw a pterodactyl-looking monstrous big bird flying over the valley towards Cochiti. They watched in disbelief until it disappeared.
Getting ready for a few days of change-of-scene, I’m hoping as usual to see something unusual out the window. Courting the unknown down unfamiliar roads and Nature’s awesomeness are what road trips are all about! I’m hoping for revelations about the year ahead, too, and if they show up in Texas or Oklahoma next week, I’ll post them in the 2023 newsletter for the year coming in January. (If you want to see how my predictions fared for 2022, here is the January newsletter)
P.S. I’m doing in-person sessions in Oklahoma January 16th-19th, firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
Someone in my family saw a new bird, a pretty big deal among us as we all are birdwatchers to varying degrees.
It turned out a few of us had a similar excitement over seeing this bird, a white-tailed kite, but nobody had the same kind of story I did. Here’s what I told wrote them about one magical day in the Spring of 1976:
“Re white tailed kites, I had a mystical relationship with one!
Once I found myself at dawn outside a hotel in Fort Worth, Texas. I was wondering what I was doing there, sitting on the curb. I’d taken a big chance and followed my intuition and took a midnight flight from Mill Valley to Texas.
On the telephone wire above me, I spied a white-tailed kite, which I thought was a stray, it did not belong there. I wondered some more what I was doing there when I saw it, we were both strays!
In the background that early Spring morning, I could hear someone playing the guitar. The guitar player came out of his hotel room and walked over to where I was on the street, asked if I had a light. It was Bob Dylan! He invited me in, I read his palm (accurately), and the rest is my very fun history.”
Everyone who gets an omen from Nature probably feels first and foremost, lucky…to witness something rare, and feel that a larger order is communicating with them about their fate.
I was in Northern California recently, and speaking of omens from Nature, it was not a good sign to see that Mt. Shasta had lost its majestic mantle of white. It looked brown and bald, like Samson losing his locks, but I just got a report that it’s once again crowned with snow. Over at a friend’s house nearby, I got turned on to a marvelously enthusiastic character who has a Youtube channel “Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t” This one is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PESTi3SJQJY If you never were interested in science or nature, his gang member vibe, photographic memory, and hilarious social critiques will still keep you watching. .
May we all be showered with synchronicities and omens and unexpected gifts in 2023… you’ll hear from me some time in January with a big newsletter for the year, and there are a couple of predictions and a pictograph below with my first psychic impressions of 2023. Happy Holidays!

If anyone wants more Fall horoscopes or to read a less-distracting Fall newsletter with sentences that finish, it’s at https://elissaheyman.com/blog/2022/10/09/elissas-fall-2022-psychic-newsletter/
Psychic Insights and Horoscopes for the Holiday Season 2022
2023 Pictograph Preview: I’m not ready for another new year yet, but the fire and brimstone graphics on the cover of the 2023 ephemeris I just bought makes me wonder what the artist was picking up on. Here’s my first impression in a psychic pictograph, explication below.
Explication: “Chastised” is about people facing the consequences of their actions, karma – U.S. rioters and politicians getting sentenced, Mother Nature teaching us hard lessons about squandered resourced… people subdued by what they’ve wrought. The upside of “chastised” is that there’s an “I’m wiser now” sense to people now, and they’re more pragmatic in 2023. Democrats are motivated and energized. Individuals, especially the 2nd half of the year, are better able to free themselves up for whatever comes next. What’s advised is to explore and experiment in your life in 2023.
There’s an out-of-control feeling about global warming and the heating up of the planet.
There could be a significant breakthrough in solar energy that makes it more viable. “
2023 is a year to take action, to not wait for the perfect time, and to be diligent. Keep up centering and strengthening practices. Steady as you go, to get somewhere new and good.
Innovation Moves Center Stage: In the U.S. and countries in surprising places, brilliant new leaders with bold ideas emerge. This is a sign of Pluto moving into Aquarius beginning in 2023, when according to the stars, societies move oppressive structures, to innovation being what forms the structure. Social structures that depend on being able to control others are out, being co-creationists with others and the Universe is in. Pluto is in Aquarius for the next twenty years.
Get Somewhere New in December 2022: Condition yourself to work on new practices that help you explore the unknown. Do your research about what you want to find in the unknown, Remember that your intuition’s job is to make you aware and attracted to what uniquely fulfills you. Even if it’s something new! Know that your intuition and magnetic fields go to work for you when you have a heart’s desire.
Fall is usually harvest time when people are busy with the opportunities that are already underway. But this particular last leg of Fall, new opportunities can open up as the planets Mercury and Venus conjunct, quickly creating new plans and possibilities.
Opportunity is not the only late Fall gift: love is in the air, too! Both intimate relationships and new friendships can quickly form.
Love and High Consciousness Go Together: If you’re interested in mediumship and channeling, try it the last few weeks of the year, when the vibration of spiritual masters like Jesus and Buddha and love in general is strong. If you want to ask higher guidance for a message, try calling one up through my guided meditations at https://elissaheyman.com/guided-meditations/
Psychic Horoscopes for Late Fall -Early Winter 2022
For Everyone: Build those relationships: creativity comes out of connection and collaboration, and if you can’t get with people in your neighborhood or in other social circles, let the teachers on YouTube inspire you.
Something to be careful of, though, is Mercury opposite Saturn in November and December; does hasty or risky describe any of your plans or actions? Move with caution. Practice moderation.
Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius: Pay attention to what you’ve got and what’s needed to maintain it. About the future: stop worrying! You’re not settled yet on what’s going to work for you, or what you want to commit to long-term. There’s something not completely seen yet or understood about your position. Soon enough you’ll be making plans for new, long-term success. You’ll be done with your frailties and doubts, and willing to create anew. The way you change makes you more viable, visible, pragmatic, and productive. Meanwhile, progress is in fits and starts, and things that are sputtering out? Let them die.
Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces: You’ve become better at handling surprises and chaos. It doesn’t matter where you start, it’s how stirred up you are about making it to your destination. However, it could be difficult to get certain things done that you are used to getting done, as forward movement can be interrupted or thwarted towards the end of the year. The Creative Self says: “I’m tired! I want a break from “having to do”. What happens if I don’t have to do?” It looks like life gets more lush! Sparse and lush go together this Fall. Listen if your inner, creative self tells you it needs more space.
Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius: What’s important now are the relationships you’re establishing. The way air signs learn now is from experience, so consider any experience with a person or place that doesn’t work out as valuable information that keeps you from wasting more time. Go farther afield if you don’t find who you need or what you want in your own back yard. Don’t worry about ups and downs in your life right now. That could be an endless worry that doesn’t produce anything. You’re busy fixing things but likely don’t have all the info you need – recognize your limits, relax and enjoy the holiday spirit!
Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn: Proceed with caution because there can be roadblocks and detours and changes of mind. Stay loose and flexible and you’ll soon be back on track. Different and new directions emerge for your consideration.. Meanwhile, it’s good to take care of things that are personal and close to home. The goal is to create a harmonious life, doing what you want. This isn’t the time to take on big projects. Don’t force yourself to do stuff. Considering what you’re going to do moving forward, make sure it emotionally pleases you. You can find partners now, or a new emotionally pleasing scenario starts. This might be one of the most successful times to create emotionally pleasing circumstances, connections, and friends. It’s not a good time to be ambitious/greedy, but friendly/seeking to enjoy others.
