Happy Birthday, Leo! Happy Birthday! What you can count on: feeling like a “new you”; surprises– and looking back to think it was a pretty interesting year. However, in some regard you can feel thwarted and that it’s slow going getting to where you want to be. You might as well not rush. Instead, go at a pace that allows you to have fun and enjoy your life.

The Speaking Stones: This is a very surprising year. Much comes up that’s from the past, both good and bad. You work again with past creative abilities. There’s lot of opportunity. You learn to use your energy much more efficiently or strikingly. You’re better at dealing with life in general, and more willing to move forward. This is only true if you’re doing what you want. If you’re not doing what you want, you’ll have an opportunity to change and re-align with your desires. If you want to, you can take yourself far, fulfill new roles, and achieve new things.

August 2-3, 2009, Sunday and Monday, 9 am to 5 pm at the Institute for American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, you can experience the talents of 17 different Mexican healers with their unique styles and disciplines. There will be Native food booths, plant-based medicines, dances, and a lecture on art as a healing process. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the healing arts—it’s free and open to the public! Perhaps you’ll leave that festival in better shape than you arrived!

It was festive Tuesday night on the plaza in Santa Fe, as half way around the world the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century got underway. We were dancing to the blues of Guitar Shorty, and then the right as the sun was being blotted out in India and China, the sky darkened and it began to storm. I scurried home, and soon after the power went out in my East side neighborhood. I felt uncharacteristically knocked out myself, even though I’d drunk a double cappuccino, and went to bed. I can understand the ancient peoples’ take on eclipses: Stay inside, lay low, and don’t try to interact with the forces of nature.
This morning I got up early, curious to see the headlines, look at the videos, and suss out the vibes. Was it going to feel like just another day? Unfortunately, it did not—it felt kind of grim and lawless. I remembered that eclipses are traditionally associated with natural disasters and the death of leaders. (However, there are many positive and significant signs around this eclipse: no more millions for F22 bomber jets, less carbon emissions, moving closer to health care reform, ultimately more significant of our future, but “heavy energy” is easier to feel and read, so the propensity for instability and violence looms larger.)
Time to switch channels! As Scoop Nisker famously said, “If you don’t like the news, go out and make some of your own!” I decided to consult the Speaking Stones and see what kind of inspiration they could give to the different astrological signs. How will we as individuals be affected by the powerful energies of the eclipse? Here are the messages I got:

Fire Signs: (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): You can reassemble the way in which you present yourself; the eclipse can signify a successful change of mediums if you are a creative type. You find ways to free your energy and be more creative. Like a bird with a new song, its new clarity delights you and others. Marketing improves. Success is dependent upon being clear with others and knowing what’s right for you.

Water Signs: (Cancer Scorpio Pisces): It really matters what seeds you sow at this time. Things can grow so easily now, and also can get blown up. You of all the elements have the greatest chance to have the past collapse, and to right yourself , or reassemble in a quite different and better place. Delicate balancing acts that are teetering in your life tend to collapse for the good. You deeply affect your balance by what it is that you are imagining. Take care with your imagination! Illusions are revealed now, all for the good.

Air Signs: (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): The eclipse coincides with creating more secure circumstances for yourself, and being able to put the past behind you except as fodder for creativity. Now it’s favorable to get further education, go ahead with a project, and attract helpful influences. This is not a time to dwell on what is hidden and personal, but on what you can attract and what you can implement. If your tendency is to exaggerate your difficulties and not your strengths, this will be high anxiety cycle. Stay guided by your light, airy, leader-like self!

Earth Signs: (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): At around the time of the eclipse, you stand back and examine your connections to people and things. There is an opening for you to walk through, and it is by being your creative self, and putting your energy in this direction, and letting any sort of discord find its way into place with the least amount of interaction with you. Focus on what you can make and the fact that you’d rather be creative than conflicted.

I had a helpless feeling on a walk today—I was feeling open to whatever had a message—and the dog I was with showed up with a dead squirrel in its jaws, stiff and swollen, and followed me around with it. Death is dogging this time, and 2009, which I characterized last December as “a river of blood, a river of change”, feels like it could live up to that potential even more than before. It could be that the sign was a portent of the new deadly bombing reported in Indonesia later today, but the omen seemed to speak of more than that one terrorist attack.
Oh, the death and decay is rampant now, Nature is on the move to rip through what remains of unsustainable ways. It’s a furious energy. Applied to the soaring spirit, not afraid to spin faster and faster, becoming a brighter and brighter light, change can happen rapidly, and new foundations can be built.

Manifestation 1

Happy Independence Day weekend to everyone! I hope you did something fun last night. I celebrated by being at the ranch, watching the sun go down from a perfect vantage point while sitting with a couple of dear friends, sharing Nutty Coconut ice cream and other good things to eat.

I wanted to discuss manifestation with you. You may have either read or seen The Secret or read the Hicks’ books on manifesting. I watched The Secret on DVD and find it inspiring, but from my point of view they do not tell the whole story. I have not read the Hicks’ books in detail so I am not sure if they include what I am going to say or not.

When I do readings for people one thing that I see is whether the aura is clear or not. Clarity in the aura is very important to good manifestation. Your intention will be very evident to spirit and will come about more easily. If you have a cloudy aura with several conflicting energies, Spirit will have a hard time manifesting anything for you because there are conflicting messages. So how do you manifest a clear aura? Here are some suggestions that I have learned from my years of this work:

~Exercise!
Exercising increases soothing brain chemicals, calming you. It makes your body feel good! It is also one of the things you can do that helps clear your aura of conflicting messages and energies.

~Cultivate patience
If you are always in a rush and get irritated when things don’t happen fast enough or the way you thought you wanted, you cut off your own message to spirit. If you are patient and wait even though sometimes things do not go your way, your ability to manifest your intentions will win out. Another quality related to this is humility. You do not have to cut in front of someone else to make your wish come true.

~Be calm and direct in your communications with others.
To some this is called an Assertive communication style. Virginia Satir calls this style of communication “leveling”. This also means that you are being reasonably honest. If you are dishonest, manipulative, or giving mixed messages, this compromises the clarity of your own aura. Not everyone likes being around an honest or assertive person, because it induces them to be honest, as well. However, the pay-off is worth it! Be aware, being honest does not mean divulging every detail to others, as you also have to consider being socially effective. What it does mean is that you are not giving out messages that conflict with your own being.

~Create from the spirit, not the personality (or ego)
If you try to create from the ego level you will probably create somewhat of a mess. The personality has a certain job to do, but it is a small part of who you are and does not have the whole picture. Its agenda includes competition, fear and satisfaction of lusts for this or that.
In order to know that you are creating from the spirit, first ask to be aligned with your Higher Self (the larger part of your spiritual being, or your spirit), so you have that as your guiding star. You can simply do that in a moment. You don’t even have to close your eyes, but it might help. Have the intention of going within with your awareness, and ask to be aligned with your Higher Self. It will happen in seconds.
Always have the awareness that you are living your life with the guidance of your Higher Self, even if that awareness is in the back of your mind.
When I see people who are not creating from the Higher Self they invariably have doubts, wonder why things are not working out and run into the same problems again and again. When people create from the Higher Self, their activities and choices suit them so well and life is much more peaceful.

Another aspect of creating with your spirit is to be aware of your spirit. Your spirit will always have a basic energy “signature” that you will recognize. I don’t think I really had an awareness of myself that way until I went through psychic training. Then I got it! I realized my spirit is optimistic and happy. I have an adventurous streak, too. If I am not feeling that way, then I am not aligned with my Higher Self or some foreign energy is in the way.

July 7th kicks off the summer eclipse season with a full moon lunar eclipse in Capricorn, ending with the full moon lunar eclipse in Aquarius, August 5th. The following messages should apply to the next six months:

People are figuring out how to “get out there”–how to reach out and connect with the world. And they’re surprising themselves with how they do this, because it’s in new ways. In general people are using new means and straddling big gaps getting to somewhere new.
This eclipse season is a wonderful opportunity to jump high and out of the way of a lot that’s also coming tumbling down. Every spirit born now is here to try to jump like a salmon upstream. Just lighten your load and you can do it: being discriminating and focused is the secret to making this season’s fiery, combustible energy work for you.
